DCMS budget cut by £300 million
20th Oct 2010
DCMS’ resource budget will fall from £1.4 billion to £1.1 billion, and its capital spend will be cut from £1.5 billion to £1.3 billion.
Chancellor of the Exchequer Osborne said that this would include cutting administrative costs by 41% over the spending review period, which runs until 2014/15. Nineteen quangos will also be scrapped or reformed.
Osborne said: “All of this is being done so we can limit four year reductions to 15% in core programmes like our national museums, the frontline funding provides to our arts and Sport England’s Whole Sport plans.”
He added that British culture was “one of our country’s greatest economic assets”.
Osborne said there is “ongoing provision” of the London 2012 Olympics’ £9.3 billion public funding pot.
